The Wonder Girls took part in America’s pastime when they visited Progressive Field, home of South Korean player Choo Shin-soo, who plays for the Cleveland Indians.
During their introduction, The Wonder Girls, all dressed in Indians’ jacket and short, sang the baseball classic ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game’ and went on to the pitchers mound where Sunye had the honor in the throwing the ceremonial first pitch. The Indians played host to the Minnesota Twins during the day.
It was learned that Shin Soo Choo’s favorite singers were the Wonder Girls and he was a big fan of the hit song ‘Nobody’. When asked to dance however, the outfielder said shyly “I’m not a good dancer.” To help Choo loosen up, Tribe bullpen catcher Dave Wallace quickly jumped in and jokingly said: “That was the highlight of my year.”
Shin Soo Choo didn’t leave empty handed as he received the Wonder Girls hit CD, a hat, a t-shirt, and more importantly, some encouraging words. “They told me, ‘Don’t give up, show everybody we are Korean.’ When I play good, everybody sees and says, ‘Where is he from?’ And when they sing, everybody sees and says, ‘Where are they from?’ We’re from Korea.” That’s the Korean pride we like to see!
The words of encouragement must have been good as Choo’s Indians beat the Twins with a score of 3-1.
