Who is Korea’s Favorite Singer for 2009? If you’ve said Big Bang or Girls Generation then you were close. With all the trot singers in the list, this was when Trot Music had its Revenge. According to the Korea Gallop Research Center, trot singer Jang Yoon-jung came in first with 7.4% of the votes.

The Queen of Trot trumped boy band Big Bang and fellow trot singer Tae Jin-ah for second and third place respectively. Veteran singer Lee Mi-ja, who came in first 5 years ago won fourth place. Girls Generation managed to reach the top five. Rounding sixth to tenth place are trot singer Na Hoon-ah and Cho Yong-pil followed by Kim Hyun-chul and Son Dambi. Lee Seung-chul and trot man Song Dae-gwan came in tied for tenth.

Jang Yoon-jung made headlines when she revealed that she and Infinity Challege host Noh Hong-chul were seeing each other for 2 years. Jang currently appears on SBS’s Gold Misses are Coming, where single ladies over the age of 30 try to find a serious boyfriend.

In 2004, Rain was the only one to be on the top ten list among young singers, and Lee Mi-ja was the only female singer. But this year, various singers were on the list regardless of gender and age.

The survey was conducted on 1704 people in Korea with the exception of Jeju Island. Participants who were 13 years of age or older were included in the survey. The poll was to commemorate Korea Gallop’s 35th anniversary.
