Mattel Releases Hot Wheels Rain Speed Racer Toy

Toy conglomerate Mattel released details of its new Speed Racer toy under its Hot Wheels toy franchise. The toy is patterned after the likeness of the car and characters in the movie, in this case, Rain who plays Taejo Togokhan, will have his likeness featured in the toy.

Some devote Rain fans in Korea however are complaining that the toy doesn’t closely resemble their star’s looks and are asking Mattel to improve on the toy’s facial features. Mattel however didn’t respond to the inquiries.

Lego released a Speed Racer toy which also featured the Kpop star as the said character of the film. Like Lego, the Hot Wheels toy will have the Korean characters Hangul marked on the toy making it only the 2nd time a world renowned toy company (Lego being the first) has used Korean characters on a toy.

The Hot Wheels Speed Racer toy featuring Rain will makes its debut during the showing of the Speed Racer movie on May 9, 2008. The live action film is an adaptation of the 1960s Japanese animated series Speed Racer. The film is written and directed by the Wachowski brothers.
