Jang Jin-young Recovering from Stomach Cancer

Hallyuwood actress and model Jang Jin-young is recovering from stomach cancer.

As tragic as this news may be, the good news is that the cancer was detected early and the actress is now undergoing further testing and treatment. Yedang Entertainment, the company where Jang works with said: “A tumor was found in Jang Jin-young’s stomach and she is currently hospitalized at a hospital in downtown Seoul to get further examination and treatment.”

The two-time Blue Dragon Award winning actress was originally feeling unwell as she was suffering from stomach cramps and went to a hospital on the 17th to get a medical checkup. Many people at the time, including Jang herself,  assumed that she was merely suffering from a bout of gastritis or gastric ulcer. Unfortunately, further tests revealed a tumor and the actress has been hospitalized since the 25th of September.

A person of the Yedang said: “We will have to see the results of the examination to see what stage the cancer is in, but all indications from the doctor said that she will be fine.”

In a ironic twist of fate, Jang is famously known to have portrayed a woman who was suffering from stomach cancer in the film The Scent of Love. Jang has also appeared in several TV dramas most recently The Lobbyist opposite Song Il-gook. She is also one of the lead models for cosmetic brand SK2.

Gastric cancer is the leading cancer type in Korea with 20.8% of malignant neoplasms, the second leading cause of cancer deaths.

The 34 year old actress will take a break from all her broadcasting activities as she concentrates in beating the disease and we wish her a speedy and healthy recovery. Get well soon!
