Default Jeon Do-yeon Knighted with Top Honor from France - 10-11-2009, 01:11 PM

Hallyuwood star and Cannes award-winning actress Jeon Do-yeon was honored as she was knighted with the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres medal (Order of Arts and Letters) from France. She was presented the medal last Saturday by the French Culture and Arts during the 14th Pusan International Film Festival currently being held in Korea's southern port city of Busan. As with tradition, the medal was pinned on the left side off her breast.

Some of the more notable winners of the previous awards included Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling, Hollywood stars Sharon Stone, George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Jeon Do-yeon wasn't the first Hallyuwood star to win this prestigious honor, the first recipient was Hallyu star Lee Byung-hun who recently appeared in the action blockbuster G.I. Joe.

Jeon was the star who has captivated audiences around the world with her moving performances in numerous films such as "The Contact (1997)", "Happy End (1999)", "Untold Scandal (2003)" and "Secret Sunshine (2007)", and in TV soap operas such as "Lovers in Prague" (2005). The actress gained worldwide fame when she won the Best Actress Award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival with her riveting portrayal in "Secret Sunshine".

The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) is an Order of France, established on 2 May 1957 by the Minister of Culture, and confirmed as part of the Ordre National du Mérite by President Charles de Gaulle in 1963. Its purpose is the recognition of significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields.
